Caring for Fibromyalgia patients: building a bridge between medicine and the Feldenkrais Method®

The Online Training Programme “CARING FOR FIBROMYALGIA PATIENTS: BUILDING A BRIDGE BETWEEN MEDICINE AND THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD®” Officially Launched in Italy on April 28

The pilot course is part of the Feldenkrais4Life project, the result of an initiative partecipated by AIIMF (Italian Association of Feldenkrais Method® Teachers), AISF (Italian Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association), and FVD (Feldenkrais-Verband Deutschland e.V.), under the Erasmus+ Programme, funded by the European Union.

For the first time, medical professionals and Feldenkrais Method® practitioners are coming together in a multidisciplinary pathway designed to foster collaboration between experts from different backgrounds. The goal is to identify common languages, create opportunities for exchange, and develop synergies to enhance the treatment and care of fibromyalgia patients. This initiative enables participants to gain deeper insights into the tools and resources offered by both clinical and somatic education approaches.

Developing a shared dialogue in the care process is essential for creating integrated, personalized, and comprehensive solutions—ones that can respond more effectively and sustainably to the unique needs of each individual.

We know this to be true: fibromyalgia cannot be confined to a single diagnosis or therapeutic model. It demands active listening, attention, patience, and, above all, a holistic perspective.

The programme welcomes twenty-four professionals already experienced in working with fibromyalgia patients. From the end of April through to late July, they will engage in a range of activities designed to deepen mutual understanding and foster meaningful exchange:

  • Six online modules covering both clinical-medical approaches (including perspectives from rheumatologists, neurophysiologists, psychologists, and sports and exercise medicine practitioners) and the somatic perspective of Feldenkrais Method® practioners.
  • Four online meetings dedicated to the sharing of viewpoints, debating on opportunities for patient, and broadening perspectives on how different approaches can be integrated.
  • ATM® (Awareness Through Movement®) lessons offering participants the chance to personally experience the Feldenkrais Method—essential for understanding how it works and how it can be applied across disciplines.

Following the Italian edition, a pilot course will be held in Germany in the autumn, organized and delivered by the German partner FVD Feldenkrais Verband Deutschland e.V.For the full programme, please visit our website.
