Feldenkrais Competences and the EQF: A Step Toward European Recognition

The Feldenkrais Method develops competences that align with EQF levels 4–7, including:

  • Knowledge of movement, perception, autonomic regulation, and learning processes
  • Skills in guiding movement, analysing functional patterns, and creating safe learning environments
  • Responsibility & Autonomy in working independently, adapting to diverse needs, and contributing to interdisciplinary teams

These elements place Feldenkrais practitioners firmly within a competence-based, lifelong-learning framework consistent with EU principles.

What F4LIFE achieved compared to the suggested Policies Recommendations:

  • Promoting institutional recognition of the Method as a complementary somatic profession aligned with EU objectives.
    • Secured the inclusion of Awareness Through Movement in NACE 2.1 and ATECO 2025 codes

  • Integrating Feldenkrais competences into national and EU qualification frameworks.
    • Drafted an EQF-aligned proposal and opened collaboration with institutional bodies

  • Strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration among somatic educators, clinicians, therapists, and teachers.
    • Launched an international joint training pathway and fostered interdisciplinary dialogue

  • Encouraging inclusion of Feldenkrais-based interventions in preventive health, rehabilitation, and lifelong learning programmes.

  • Supporting research and innovation on somatic learning and autonomic regulation within EU funding schemes.
    • Supported new networking and new collaborative initiatives.

The message is clear: Feldenkrais competences are ready for broader recognition and integration across European health, education, and social care systems.
